Rotary Member Spotlight is here!

Each month we will feature one of the many Glen Ellyn Rotary members that make such a difference in our communities. These are people that fill many roles in their day to day lives and apply Rotary values in everything they do. This month’s member is John Mulherin. In addition to John's generosity, he has a natural ability to share stories and connect with people.

When did you become a Rotarian?
I joined the Glen Ellyn Rotary Club in October of 1987.  I was sponsored by, who else, Don Fischer.

Why did you join Rotary?
I had been the guest of several other Rotarians over the years so I was familiar with Rotary.  Don had been a tremendous, friend and colleague for some time and it was his recommendation that induced me to join Rotary.  I wanted to be more active in my community and it was obvious that being a part of this organization would give me that opportunity.

What is your best Rotary memory?
I have two “Rotary memories.”  The first was my attendance of the RI Convention in Nice France in June of 1995. It was an amazing experience to be exposed to fellow Rotarians from so many counties. I experienced Rotarian fellowship; a common bond of people from all over the world. The second was instigated by Peter Zeuthen.  Peter, the late Pat Schauer and I traveled to Denmark in February of 2005. I was privileged to speak before the Rotary Club of Copenhagen on the one hundred year of the anniversary of Rotary, February 23, 2005.

What are some of your hobbies/interests outside of Rotary?
Outside of law and Rotary I spent many years in community theater.  I performed in over seventeen plays and directed two plays for Wheaton Drama.  I am most proud of having directed The Lion in Winter.

What is one fun fact about you that no one might know?
I was in a professional production. The play, Scapino, was produced in October of 1996 in conjunction with the opening of what is now the McAninch Arts Center at College of DuPage.
