Welcome
The Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn was sponsored by the Oak Park Rotary Club and chartered in 1943. After several years, the Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn sponsored the West Chicago Rotary Club in 1954 and the Wheaton Rotary Club in 1957.
Since 1943, Glen Ellyn Rotary Club has met at several locations. It now meets every Thursday at 12:10 p.m. at Barone's Restaurant (January - March) and at Glen Oak Country Club (April - December).
Although Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn has undertaken and participated in many civic endeavors over the years, it is best recognized as a major funder of College and Vocational Scholarships since 1965. We have assisted over 190 students by raising and awarding some $300,000 in the past 40+ years. Vocational scholarships through College of DuPage are more recent.
In 2006, in conjunction with the Rotary International Convention in Copenhagen, Denmark, a "Clubs of Friendship" agreement was signed between Copenhagen Rotary Club and Rotary Club of Glen Ellyn. One project from this relationship is the annual post-graduate student exchange Scholarship consisting of tuition, transportation and lodging alternating between Copenhagen Business School and Benedictine University, Lisle, IL.
Some Glen Ellyn projects include working to refurbish Family Service Shelter and the construction of the beautiful Gazebo in Glen Ellyn's Prairie Path Park. Assisting needy students with required school supplies is a more recent and on-going project.
Selected high school students are sponsored annually for international world studies seminars in the Midwest.
International projects include humanitarian efforts in Peru, ambulances for Cuajimalpa, Mexico, a school bus and a cross-country truck for an orphanage in Uganda in cooperation with two neighboring Rotary Club and vocational scholarships for 18 youths in Palo Alto, Mexico.
Most recently our Rotary club entered into another "Club of Friendship" with Rotary Club of La Villa Ciudad de Mexico where a Glen Ellyn student spent a year on Rotary's International Youth Exchange program.
We strongly participate in Rotary International's on-going and global efforts to eradicate polio throughout the world and make the world polio-free. Polio is a crippling and potentially fatal infectious disease
The history of our Rotary Club is incomplete without mentioning the many social events enjoyed by members and their spouses. Some of these events include the Annual Installation and Recognition Dinner in June, Bulls and Cougars games during he seasons, Big Wheel, Golf Outing, Steak Fry, and Wine and Cheese Party and many others.
